As we celebrate Independence Day across America, it’s a great time to remember that summer is far from over and there’s still plenty of time to grow the vegetable garden of your dreams. At Active Grow, we want to help you make the most of your summer gardening with our top-of-the-line LED grow lights, grow tents and an assortment of seed starting growing trays. Begin your plants indoors and give them the best start before transplanting them outdoors. Here’s a regional guide to help you know what you can plant this summer.
July & August
Pacific Northwest
Focus on fast-maturing crops like lettuce, collard greens, kale, broccoli, beets, Brussels sprouts, radishes, onions and carrots. You can also plant beans (direct sow), peas (direct sow), scallions and cabbage.
July & August
Northern California
Get cool-season crops in the ground such as beets, broccoli, cabbage, collards, carrots, kohlrabi, cauliflower, lettuce, radishes, spinach, Swiss chard, potatoes and turnips.
July & August
Southern California
Plant beans (direct sow), herbs, leeks, kale, okra, chard, corn, green onion, summer squash, pumpkins and winter squash.

Southwest
Before summer storms arrive, sow seeds of black-eyed peas, chilies, corn, eggplant, and summer and winter squash. Continue to plant heat-loving crops like tomatoes, peppers, okra, beans (direct sow) and sweet potatoes.

Mountain Regions
Now is the time for lettuce, chard, collards, peas, broccoli, cauliflower, root vegetables like kohlrabi, potatoes, leeks, beets and rutabaga. Also plant hardy herbs like chives, tarragon, parsley and dill.

Plant fast-growing crops such as lettuce, spinach, radishes, turnips and beets. You can also plant late-season crops like broccoli, cabbage and kale.

Plant crops that can mature quickly, such as lettuce, spinach, radishes and turnips. Late-season crops like broccoli, cabbage, and kale are also good choices.

South
Focus on heat-tolerant crops like okra, sweet potatoes, southern peas and hot peppers. You can also start cool-season crops like collards, broccoli and kale indoors under our grow lights and in our seed starting trays to be transplanted later in the season.
